Notifications & reminders (🔔)
Today reminders live inside the app — on the Dashboard and, in a couple's plan, in a bell that appears when the other person changed something for the whole plan. Nothing is sent to your phone or by email.
What the app reminds you about
- Missing monthly entry — when the current month has no entry, the Dashboard shows a clear banner leading to the Entry, and the "Review" chip in the KPI row shows the month's status.
- Data & trend insights — rule-engine hints (savings trend ↑/↓, concentration risk, debt share, FIRE milestones) live in Analysis, under the "Takeaways" tab.
Plan changes
When, in a couple's plan, one person changes something that affects both — the investing country, account types, the joint-assets split, the plan name, the family, the app view, a holding's monthly plan (e.g. "Change overpayment plan" on the Dashboard), or deletes a category — a bell with the number of new changes appears on the other person's device:
- on a phone — in the header, next to the settings gear (on the Settings screen, in its place); it scrolls with the content, so it never covers cards,
- on a computer — in the status bar at the top of the screen, on the right; on the Dashboard, which has no status bar, in the header next to the theme toggle and "Add entry".
The panel shows each change in one sentence, e.g. "Kuba · country changed to Germany (currency EUR) · 3 Oct" or "Ania · shared-asset split: split 50/50 · 2 Oct". Tapping it opens the right Settings section — also when Settings is already open — and keyboard focus lands on the section heading. A monthly-plan change opens the plan card on the Dashboard (focus lands on the card). At the bottom of the panel an All plan changes link leads to the lasting list in Settings (Recent plan changes) — the bell is just a hint, the list is the record.
- Each change shows up once: after the panel is opened it's marked as seen on that device. The bell (now without a number) stays until you leave the screen — when the panel closes (also with Esc), keyboard focus returns to it instead of falling to the top of the page.
- The author doesn't see their own changes as new. We identify the author the same way as "Who uses this device" in Settings: in a plan without an account, with no choice made it's the main person, so on a shared laptop, after switching "Who uses" to the other person, the bell shows them the first person's changes.
- A series of changes to the same thing on the same day (e.g. a few tweaks to the overpayment plan, or the country Poland → Germany → France) is one notification with the starting and final value; "there and back" (Poland → Germany → Poland) leaves none.
- An undone change doesn't notify. "Undo" for the country, account types or a category removes its entries from the log.
- A one-person plan has no such notifications.
- The bell is calm: the badge uses the app colour, no red — it's information, not an alarm.
- Only the author can undo a country change (the snapshot lives in their browser tab); the notification takes the other person to the country section, which shows what is set now.
The plan keeps the last 20 such changes. The log is part of the plan — in the cloud it sits in the same encrypted blob as the rest of the data (details in Privacy), and the "seen" marker stays on the device and isn't synced.
What's not there (yet)
The full notification centre in the bell (entry reminder, takeaways, trial) is built but disabled until paid plans launch — it will return together with trial notifications. Until then the bell shows only plan changes from the other person. Email and web push are on the roadmap. Until then the app can only remind you when you open it.
